It is important that your child is eating a healthy lunch when they are at school. During the summer, it’s easier to monitor and make sure that your kids eat healthy while at home. But once they go back to school, this job can become a bit tougher. Luckily, there are a few things that you can do help ensure your kids get a great meal, even when they are gone all day at school.
Make a lunch
The first thing that you can do to make sure your kids eat healthy while they are at school is to make them a healthy meal. Try to include a variety of foods, including some lean meats, a fruit and a vegetable if possible, and maybe even some milk to drink.
When you pack a lunch, you know exactly what your kid is eating and there are no issues later on. If you are short on time in the morning, make sure you pack up the lunch the night before so they can grab it on the way out the door.
Check the school lunch
Sometimes there just isn’t time to make a whole meal for your child or to plan this all out. If this seems to be a problem for you, then it is important to take a look at the menu from your child’s school. This will list out all of the foods that are available in the lunch line that day and you can take a look at it to determine if your kids eat healthy on that day. If you are worried about the nutrition on a particular day, request that your child eat only something healthy or see about dropping something off later on.
Talk about the importance of eating healthy
It is not always possible to dictate what your kids are eating at school but you still need to take the precautions to give them the right foods so the kids eat healthy as much as possible. Instead of being the mean person, you can sit down with your child and discuss why you would like them to eat healthier foods. Go over the good benefits as well as some of the bad things that can happen when they choose to eat poorly. When your child has a good understanding of the rules and why they are there, they are more likely to make better choices.
