It’s a newer trend that makes many wonder if it can actually help, so you too may be asking whether you should really stand up while you work. Many are asking this question because you are seeing more and more people standing in their workplace to get their work done each and every day.

As with everything, this habit can be taken to an extreme, and therefore you want to approach it in the right way. Sure, standing can help, but you can also overdo it, as you can with sitting. It’s all about finding balance to be your best, but you may find some notable health benefits when you stand at work throughout the day.

So what is the secret here, and just why should you stand up while you work? Well, it starts with the fact that, when you are standing, you are in a more active state. You are likely walking around, and you are burning calories just by standing up rather than sitting down. Not only that but also you can easily insert some squats and leg lifts while you are on the phone or going about your day. So you are incorporating more activity, and that’s good in terms of helping with weight loss and so much more. The more active you can be throughout the day, the more that you help to achieve and maintain a healthy weight range. And that’s just one of the many benefits!

Periods of Standing Can Help Your Body Tremendously

When you stand up while you work, you also help to avoid blood clots or other health issues. You help with blood pressure and so much more. So not only are you avoiding the sedentary lifestyle that can lead to weight gain, but you may also help in preventing certain health problems now and later on in life. You do have to recognize, though, that if you have any current injuries or health problems that could be made worse by standing, you need to find a healthy balance. Always weigh out the benefits versus the risks in order to be your very best!

So the question is still out there as to whether you should stand up while you work, and it’s a mixed answer. While you probably don’t want to stand all day long, inserting periods of standing can really be helpful. It may be impossible, and even undesirable, to stand all day, but if you can get in some periods of, say, 20 minutes of standing a couple of times a day, you get in some activity. You get the body moving and the organs functioning, and it’s a great way to break a sedentary period. Not only can you benefit physically but you may also improve your focus and energy levels as well. A little standing can go a long way!
