Americans are not exactly known around the world as the picture of perfect health. In fact, many headlines are written about Americans’ unhealthy lifestyle and eating habits. But there are three deadly health habits, in particular, that almost every American has, and these should be eliminated to achieve better health and wellness.
1. Eating Too Much Red Meat
Americans just can’t seem to quit their addiction to red meat, despite all of the scientific evidence that proves consuming meat increases the risk of a host of diseases, including heart disease and cancer.
Whether they eat processed or fresh meat, serious meat eaters are often the ones who consume the lowest amount of fruits and vegetables, even though a diet that is focused upon whole, fresh, plant ingredients is one of the best ways to reduce your risk of a variety of diseases. So if you find yourself eating too much meat, especially red meat, cut back to just consuming small amounts a couple of times a week.
2. Smoking or Drinking Excessively
Smoking and drinking are a couple of deadly health habits that many people enjoy doing at the same time, even though each is quite dangerous on its own.
Smoking, in particular, has already been clinically proven to cause damage to every organ in the body, and it will increase your risk of getting chronic diseases and cancer. Despite how many people fall ill and die as a result of smoking each year, many Americans still do it.
Drinking excessively will also cause damage to the body, and heavy drinkers make themselves more vulnerable not only to cirrhosis, but also to neurological damage and cardiovascular disease. Cut back to drinking only small amounts occasionally to avoid these adverse effects on your health.
3. Not Exercising
Even if you eat a healthy diet, if you are not active, your body will suffer. A large number of Americans are guilty of not getting enough physical activity every day. In fact, 60% of people in America aren’t active enough, while 25% don’t get active at all. This is one of the easiest to avoid deadly health habits, as even just going for a walk or cleaning your house could help you get your body moving so you can start looking and feeling better.
Even though Americans are known for exhibiting these poor health habits, they are habits that you can change if you put your mind to it.
